Can Christians Have a Happy Marriage?
Does it seem like a joke to say, do we eat lobsters at a wedding because it is delicious or because of style? Neither, it is to show the newly weds the way to happiness. As a couple, one has to to be deaf, the other has to be dumb. But is the way of happiness pretending to be deaf and dumb, It is not exactly like that.
Let’s look the Bible. In Genesis Chapter Two, after Adam was created, his job was a very big responsibility. Was Adam wondering why he had no mate and was alone? At this point, Jehovah God said, It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper as his counterpart. So Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs and built it into a woman – Eve. When Adam awoke he said: this time this is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh!
So the Bible comes to a conclusion: Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. So as a husband and wife, is this not a partnership for life? Can life and death partners be deaf and dumb forever?
Undoubtedly, true happiness is having a spouse as your close friend, good partner, helping each other, learning from each other, listening carefully to suggestions and complaints for the other half, sharing each others’s burdens, and accepting helpful insights, for the other half’s actions, you should praise the good actions and work through the bad actions.
So when should you play deaf? When you provoke each other’s flesh, you have to be deaf to those irritating words, you have to close your eyes and not see that much. you have to close your mouth and not speak strong, violent words, you don’t have to rely on yourself to change each other, you only have to pray for the other half, let God do it, He does better than you think.
In the same manner, learn to let go of the matters that you can’t let go of, listen to what you should, and not hear what you shouldn’t, these are all indispensable lessons in your marriage life, but what matters more is that you were created as a pair, to help God manage many things. But it is not normal, if you two are together, yet God is left alone and lonely in a corner.
Welcome God as the third person into your marital life, He is not an interfering God, but one that connects the two of you, a third party arbitrating between you and your spouse as your master. This is the way of happiness.
You, me, and Him—the perfect combination.
