Message Four
Eating the Lord
I. The Bible is a book of eating; the thought in the Bible being to eat— 2:16; Rev. 19:2; 22:2.
Gen. 2:16 And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden you may eat freely.
II. Genesis—God’s desire being for man to eat the tree of life—2:8-9, 16.
Gen. 2:9 And out of the ground Jehovah God caused to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, as well as the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
III. Exodus—God’s desire being for man eat the lamb—12:6-8; 24:11.
Exo.12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread with bitter herbs.
IV. Deuteronomy—God’s desire being for man to eat the produce of Canaan—6:10-11, 15; 8:8; 15-19, 20; 22:6-7.
Deut. 6:11 And houses full of every good thing that you did not fill, and hewn cisterns that you did not hew, vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant, and you have eaten and are satisfied.
V. Nehemiah—eating the fat and drinking the sweet wine—8:10-12.
Neh. 8:10 Then he said to them, Go your way; eat the fat, and drink the sweet wine…
VI. Song of songs and Psalms—being saturated with the fatness of Your house—S. 5:1; Psa. 36:8.
Psa. 36:8 They are saturated with the fatness of Your house, And You cause them to drink of the river of Your pleasures.
VII. Prophets—“Your words were found and I ate them”— 25:6; 55:2; Jer. 15:16; Ezek. 34:14; Joel 2:19.
Jer. 15:16 Your words were found and I ate them, And Your word became to me. The gladness and joy of my heart, For I am called by Your name, O Jehovah, God of hosts.
VIII. Matthew—the Lord being the children’s bread for man to eat—15:21-28.
Matt. 15:26 But He answered and said, It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.
IX. Luke—“let us eat and be merry”— 15:23.
Luke 15:23 And bring the fattened calf; slaughter it, and let us eat and be merry.
X. John—the Lord being the bread of life—6:35, 57, 63.
John 6:35 Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall by no means hunger, and he who believes into Me shall by no means ever thirst.
XI. 1 Peter—“as newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word”—2:2-3.
1 Pet. 2:2-3 As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation, If you have tasted that the Lord is good.
XII. Revelation:
A. “To him who overcomers, to him I will give of the hidden manna”—2:17.
Rev. 2:17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna…
B. God’s desire still is for man to eat the tree of life—22:2, 14.
Rev. 22:2 And on this side and on that side of the river was the tree of life, producing twelve fruits, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
